Stitching ABC's
Yesterday was a bit of a down day for me. It happens sometimes with my PMDD - no real trigger and no real reason, just a day where I was somewhat depressed most of the day. That made it a bit harder to stitch, but I did put some time into Stitching ABC's, which will look like this when it's done:

St. Peter's
This month marks ten years since my husband and I went to Italy before we started our family. I've already talked a lot about my love of Italy, and the piece I worked on last night is near and dear to my heart as a result.
St. Peter's Cathedral in Vatican City is one of my absolute favorite churches in the world. We are Roman Catholic, so there is the religious significance of course, but besides that, it's just a fantastic work of art. Between the architectural details and all of the paintings and sculptures and historically significant pieces in the actual Cathedral itself, it is one of the places that I think everyone should see at least once in their life. Between our semester in Rome and our trip a decade ago, I've spent many, many hours in it and have not yet seen it all.
One of the best parts of the Cathedral is the ability to climb to the top of the dome and look out over Rome. Now, the walk up is scary. Slanting walls, shaking ropes, knee high barriers, it is not for the faint of heart (or those scared of heights, as I am! But I've climbed it twice!) but it is beautiful! You won't get another view of Rome like the one you see up there!
Now, before I show you my progress from last night, I have to share a few pictures from our trip.
This is me at the 'first stop' on the walk up to the top of the dome. This is actually on top of the Cathedral itself, and there is a store up on the top run by a group of nuns. Many people stop at this point and don't keep going!
But here is the view from the top of the dome. It's just stunning, even on a cloudy day!
Then I have to share this picture because it's the closest picture I have to what this pattern will look like when it's done - I took this at the end of the Bridge of Angels, which is actually shown in the piece, but hey, I think this looks awfully familiar!
Here is my progress from last night, the real reason for this post!
There are lots of "squashed" crosses and even some crosses that are "off" of their main line to give a different perspective in this piece. It's colors are far more muted than most of my other pieces, but it made it a very relaxing stitch. I'm looking forward to this piece growing!

Skaters Village Tree Skirt
So I began my next new start yesterday: Skaters Village Tree Skirt!
I have always loved Victorian Christmas themed decorations. One reason I chose the stockings I did for all of us is because they fit into that old fashioned theme, and when I saw this tree skirt years and years ago, I knew that it would be perfect to compliment the stockings I had completed:
The problem? I kept putting off buying this kit. I had other projects to work on, other things to do, and it was a pricy kit anyway. By the time I decided I really wanted to do this kit and was ready to purchase it? It was retired! I could not find it anywhere! I was so disappointed! I kept an eye out on EBay and other places - this $50 kit was being sold for nearly $200 everywhere I looked! No way!
I kept an eye out over the years. I was willing to pay up to $100 for the kit because it was retired and it was my own fault for not purchasing it sooner. Plus, I just never fell in love with another tree skirt in the same way and none of the kits that came out really fit the stockings as well as this one does, in my opinion.
Last fall, I lucked out! I found an EBay seller that was selling the kit for $75! It was already opened, but everything was in the kit, nothing had been started, so I absolutely used the Buy It Now option and it was mine!
Last night, I finally started this piece! And oh my goodness, this is going to be both a beautiful piece to work on...and probably the hardest project I ever worked on. The pattern isn't complex, it's not even the biggest pattern that I'm working on - I have several HAED's that are bigger. The difficulty with this project is going to be the MASSIVE fabric I'm stitching it on!
Here is the progress I made last night:
This stitched up pretty quickly because so much of it was done in half stitches. To give some perspective of how big this fabric is - I'm doing 3-4 strands of floss for each of the colors, rather than two on most normal pieces. Backstitching when I get to it is done with two strands. But to really make it clear:
That hoop is a 10-inch hoop. This piece of fabric is HUGE. Now, I will only stitch on the bottom half of the fabric, and the rest will be used to help cut out and shape the tree skirt when I'm done, but this is going to be a unique challenge to stitch! But that's okay. It's going to be so worth it in the end!

WIPocalypse 2015 - February Edition
It's hard to believe we're already in February and it's time for this month's WIPocalypse report! January just flew by! Feel free to visit other stitchers who are participating in the WIPocalypse this month by going here!
This month, Measi is asking us the following question:
I have to admit, I don't feel like I get into a rut very often. That is likely because I do a daily rotation and am stitching on something new every day. Yes, there are pieces in my rotation I like more than others, but I tell myself if I can do one day of stitching on one of the pieces that are harder for me to focus on, it's one day closer to completion!
It took me time to get to this place. I used to be a one project at a time stitcher, and that burned me out. Then would do a rotation of one piece a week. That was great for the pieces I loved, not so much for the struggle pieces. (I will clarify here that I love every one of my projects or else I wouldn't be doing them, there are just some that for whatever reason are easier to focus on and spend time on than others.) So for now, I'll keep up my daily rotation!
The other good thing about a daily rotation is that I can get to work on more of my WIPocalypse pieces in a month! This month was an exception to that rule because I was focused on two pieces for the first half of the month, but I'm fully into the daily rotation now!

Mediterranean Flavors
Another day, another Italian/Mediterranean themed Dimensions kit! Not that I'm remotely complaining, mind you. I love each and every one.
Yesterday I worked on Mediterranean Flavors. This is another nice, small piece to work on amid my larger pieces, and it stitches up very quickly. Here is my progress as of last night:
One thing I like about this piece is that it really does utilize the fabric color for the design. The garlic, for example, only has a few actual stitches. The rest of the detail will come out with the backstitching and totally incorporates the beige fabric.
One more day until the Wipocalypse report! I definitely will have a lot to report!
