So I'm starting to look around to gather the materials I need to do my first HAED, and I would really like to use a hand dyed fabric for the piece. I'm going to be doing Flames of Desire first:
I am doing some looking around online for quality affordable vendors, preferably state side though I'm not stuck on that, that do the hand dyed fabric. Aida/Even weave is what I'm used to working with, but I'm willing to expand to linen. I'd like to find a red/orange fabric to compliment the figure as really, except for the portion within the halo/circle surrounding the figure, all of that cream in the image above is fabric, not stitches. Only the inner halo/circle has cream stitching.
So sell me on your favorite fabric vendor! All suggestions welcome and appreciated!

why dont you go take a look at Karens blog? she has an amazing collection of hand dyed fabrics from different companies and may be able to help you select something for your piece - mystitchyramblings.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI completely forgot about that! Thanks for the suggestion!
DeleteI would recommend against using linen because the threads can be uneven, and the HAED patterns look best when the stitches are a uniform shape/size.
ReplyDeletePicture This Plus is my favorite place for fabric. :)

Thanks for the insight, Rahenna! This will be my first HAED, so I appreciate that feedback!
DeleteSince I only stitch on evenweave I can't help you with your fabric choice =/ But I hope you will find something that suits you and I am looking forward to see what you chose
ReplyDeleteI would go with evenwave too. Do some test stitches so you know how many strands of there work best for you.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your first HAED, it's a beautiful piece and I look forward to seeing your progress pics :)
I'd agree with Rahenna about using evenweave not linen for any picture design not just HAED. I use linen for samplers and evenweave for figures and dragon etc.
ReplyDeleteI can recommend two good UK based dyers - Crafty Kitten and Sparklies if you can't find a US one!
